Abstract
Chronic multi-channel single unit recording was done in both striatum (STR) and globus pallidus (GP) of SD rats before and after 6-OHDA lesion in the substantia nigra (SN). Elevated body swing test was subdivided into 2 behavioral parts, flying (with movement (FM) and without movement (FS)) and ground (GS: safety seeking, GR: resting, GH: head movement, GM: exploring). Each period was stable for weeks in normal rats. Neural activities were stable and higher in GP than in STR during all behavioral segments. Acupuncture (AC) treatment was done in every other day to Gb34 and Lv3 bilaterally 2 weeks after lesion. PD-SN rats showed behavioral changes from 3hrs after lesion. After SN lesion, GP neural activities were immediately reduced and STR activities were increased. STR activity became greater than GP at 30 min after lesion and this was reversed and maintained as a plateau after 1 day post-lesion. Recovery to normal behavioral state was observed after 6th AC treatment. Neural activities during FM and GS were restored to control level at AP 5th day. Activity during GR was recovered to normal level after the 1st AP.
